About 15 years! It has been a progression from Admin to PA to EA, although some of those roles have had a strong commercial and/or Project Management component to them.

How do you stay on top of your to-do list?
I schedule everything in the diary and set up reminders, whether in the diary or a to-do list with flags, or both! I use MS Office; however, I’ve also used Trello previously for keeping on top of to-do lists.

I love working autonomously, and as part of the team. I provide psychological safety for my Executives and try to make their life and work as easy as possible!
Tell us something you are proud of professionally?

During that time, I had an extremely heavy workload and we worked too many hours overtime, but we finally regained investor’s confidence in the company, and I got a promotion the following year.
What is some of the best advice you’ve been given that relates to your job?
First and foremost that self-care is super important, “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. Also, don’t take things personally, especially under moments of stress and pressure.

Why are you a member of The Officials?
About a year ago I heard about Lauren Bradley and was invited into The Officials Slack group before even becoming a member. From the very beginning, I felt so welcomed, supported and loved the courses available and the mentorship program.
With the love and encouragement of this incredible community, I found strength I didn’t even know I had, and got a job in the middle of the pandemic, moved house, and turned things around.Joy Hiscock, EA to the CEO + COO of a biotech company
Any further comments you’d like to share?
I have been an Official for nearly three years, and what a surreal time it has been! But with the love and encouragement of this incredible community, I managed to get through the severe anxiety I experienced during the pandemic (not only due to Covid itself but also due to not being able to see my family, professional instability, loneliness).
Joy joined The Officials through our mentorship program. She is one of our most active members and always a great source for funny memes and gifs in our #justforfun channel in our Slack community. The rough times she described above have only made her a more experienced and supportive Official. Thank you, Joy, for being such a fabulous member of our community!
If you would like to connect with Joy and our many other incredibly supportive members then join The Officials HQ. We are waiting to welcome you with open arms.
Joy – you are exactly like your name: a Joy. I’ve had the best conversations with you and proper laugh out loud moments that have left my partner and children looking blankly at each other because I’ve been unable to tell them what’s so funny. You’re truly awesome, and I wouldn’t have had the priviledge of meeting and connecting with you if it wasn’t for The Officials (and of course, the lovely Lauren!).
